Saona Catamaran (Petit Comité)
The VIP version of Saona — small-group catamaran, premium bar, live music and grilled lobster on the beach.
Forget the resorts for a day. This is the tour we send you on when you want to meet the country — not just sit on its beaches.
We load up an open-top 4×4 truck (safari camión) and head inland. First stop: a typical Dominican house in a rural village where the family shows you their daily life — the coffee plants, the cocoa tree, how they break open the pods, the old wood-fired oven. You taste local fruits you’ve probably never heard of.
Next we roll through cocoa, coffee and tobacco fields, with short stops at a small rum and coffee distillery for tastings. Lunch is at a family-run restaurant — rice, beans, chicken, pork, fresh salad, plantains — served Dominican-style, meaning generous.
After lunch we stop at a river for a swim (bring a towel and flip-flops). It’s cold and clear. On the way back we pass through Higüey, the biggest town in the east, for a quick look at the basilica.
Expect dust, bumpy roads and a lot of laughing — that’s the point. Not for pregnant women, serious back issues, or very young kids. Min age 8.
Here's what's covered by your package and what falls outside it. If any item matters to you and isn't listed, just ask us — we can usually arrange it.
